Understanding the principles of visual processing in small animals, such as insects, that possess relatively simple nervous systems but nevertheless display a rich behavioural repertoire. My research seeks to elucidate principles of flight control and navigation, and to explore the limits of the "cognitive" capacities of small brains. He applies this work to help produce small pilotless aircraft controlled by computers with the same power as a bee's brain.
How do bees navigate?
